Synopsis: It's raining outside, and Fuu runs to the nearest awning to get dry. She apologizes to the owner, but he is glad to see travelers. He welcomes Fuu to come on in and share a story or two, eventhough they have no money. There's no need to show restraint. So, Jin and Mugen dont. They head straight in and Mugen orders some food. Fuu apologizes, again. Inside the restaurant, a beautiful woman is playing the shamisen and singing. The group sits down and helps themselves to the prepared meal. Fuu pays close attention to the singer and shows her appreciation after the song is over. The owner says the tune makes him cry everytime he hears it. Jin mentions that a goze's song sounds sad because they show you things you cannot see. A goze being a blind female traveler. Mugen gobbles his food and the goze sits next to him. Fuu tells the woman she appreciated her song, which she cracks a smile. However, Mugen says her beauty is wasted on a gloomy song, and offers her a drink. She says she doesn't offer charity. A couple men surround the woman. They hassle her about traveling in their territory. Fuu speaks up, but she doesn't want her pity. The men threaten to break her hand. Mugen intervenes to say "how about I brake your mouth." He roughs them up, but the cowards bolt out. Mugen says his actions weren't out of pity and wishes to know her name. She replies "Sara." They hang around the restaurant and chat about their adventures. The woman says she is heading to Hyugyu. Sara apologies to Fuu for her rudeness earlier. She says her lonliness has made her defensive. She would like to travel with them for awhile and help pay for their expenses. They travel on for awhile as Sara plays from town to town. She makes money and Jin and Mugen keep the roughnecks in order. They travel much of the land and pass by many people. Later, they stop at a hut and have a bite to eat. Fuu comments on Mugen's spoiler behavior for craming his mouth, but it's better than starving. Jin finally asks about her Kishibojin charm, an owl positioned on the head of her shamisen. It's a charm for protecting children and goddess of family harmony. He ask if it's taking the place of her child. She smiles and agrees. Fuu asks if the child is with it's father, but she says no. She says that her blindness made her unfit to raise a child. She sees it fit, that she sings a sad song like "Kuzu no ha no kowakare." They arrive in a hotel. Fuu warns the guys not to try any "funny business" with Sara, since she's fronting the bill. Mugen tries to drag Sara off, but Fuu is quick to react. At night Mugen joins Sara jor a bath. He tries to scare her, but is shot down. She says that everyone has their own presence and she knew he was coming. She says she has followed a dark path (blindness?) and has been accustomed to it. That's why she doesn't want to be pitied. Mugen says that her song contradicts her words. From the doors, Fuu sqwacks at the site of Mugen. She says Mugen was putting the moves on Sara. He stands up and stomps out in his birthday suit. He passes Fuu, who is covering herself as best as she can. He comments that she has nothing to see anyways. After Mugen has left, she joins Sara. She makes sure Mugen didn't try anything, but Sara changes the subject. She asks what kind of face Mugen has? She only knows what's in her imagination. Fuu quickly corrects her and says Mugen is an gorilla ugly. As Mugen dries off, Jin is cleaning his sword. Mugen mentions that Sara has no weakness in her exterior. Jin asks "did you see?" But, Fuu bursts in. She shows her angry face, but leaves. Before they go to sleep, Fuu speaks heart to heart with Sara. She tells her about her journey to find the Sunflower Samurai, her father. When she finds him, she will sock him good. Sara says that she had a baby boy, but there is nothing she can do. Sara asks if Fuu ever wishes she never finished her journey. Fuu admits that Sara can see into her heart. Sara says her other senses have been hightened, just as she senses Momo-san at he side. However, she cant sense peoples feelings. Sara says she will go on until she dies. Morning comes, Sara heads to pray, and Mugen jubilently joins her. Jin and Fuu discuss Sara's path to join her son. As they speak, a couple kids pass by led by a masked man. Jin glares at the man. As they head off, Sara lags behind with Fuu. She says she has a favor to ask. The group enters a night festival as Jin and Mugen walk next to Sara. Fuu has something on her mind. Sara asks Mugen to pick something out for her son. He asks a random kid, but pushes him away. They turn their attention to Fuu, who thinks back to their conversation. Sara asks for either Mugen or Jin to travel with her. She'd like Fuu to decide. Fuu turns and runs away from the festival. Jin chases after her. As he goes, he passes a masked man with pinwheels around him. Mugen choses a paddle drum. Not knowing his parents, he's not sure if her boy will enjoy it. Sara tells Mugen that she didn't know happiness until she had her child. Jin arrives to find Fuu crying and she apologizes. Mugen enjoys a meal, but Sara has vanished. Sara passes the masked man and stops. He says that she knows what she must do. It is the only way for her to live. And she must not forget that. They are all together again, and enjoying their last day together before they head their seperate ways. Fuu breaks the ice and tells Jin that she wishes for him to go with Sara on her journey. Mugen is angered, but Fuu explains her justification. After a long look at Sara, Jin agrees. They're now ready to head their parting ways. Sara thanks Fuu, and Jin wishes her good luck. He turns, and they head off. Fuu watches him until they're out of site. Mugen says that he left easily. Fuu is upset by this and they share a comedic moment. Jin and Sara come to a rope bridge. As they cross the center, Jin turns and an arrow catches his lantern. Sara casts off her cape and pulls out a bladed staff. Jin asks who put her up to this. She says it is someone who they cannot stand against. It's not by choice, but it's something she must do for fate. Jin realizes her blindness is not a hinderence, and cant hold back. She acknowleges Jin's talent as the one who kill Mariya Enshirou. She gracefully dodges Jin's advances, and he seems at the disadvantage. A look of fear crosses his face, as she comes in to strike.
As the group is traveling with Sara, they pass by many people. One is a woman dressed in white the other is a mother and her child who carries a pinwheel. The masked man has appeared with children and pinwheels around him. Mugen mentions that he hasn't had parents that he can remember. |
