Synopsis: On their journey, Mugen, Jin, and Fuu have found a shack to rest in. Mugen and Jin have left to look around, and they are late in coming back. Suddenly, a banging comes from the front door. Fuu heads to open the door and finds a woman in need of help. Two men are persuing her armed with long and short barrel rifles. They barge into the shack. They immediately tear up the shack and tell Fuu to give up the woman. When Fuu wont talk, they decide to leave, but they obviously know she's here. Mugen and Jin approach a long line of people. The people are being asked to step on a fumie, which is a religious symbol. The people who do not step on the fumie were suspected Christians. Mugen is ordered by the official to step on it, and naturally he doesn't respond well to that. He causes a disturbance, which leads to Mugen and Jin being surrounded by guards. Jin guides Mugen to not act irrationally for being an idiot. All of a sudden a man arrives on a horse. The man claims to be the grandson of Francisco Xavier, a portuguese missionary who brought Christianity to Japan. Xavier is armed with a semi-automatic rifle, and says to stand against him is to stand against God. He fires at a couple guards and rides away laughing. Mugen and Jin are befuddled. Back at the cabin, Fuu checks to see if the coast is clear. She then proceeds to let the woman out of hiding. The woman introdues herself as Yuri and thanks her. She asks about Fuu's dangle, which she has been told not to show off. Fuu is not sure weather to call it a "katami" for someone who has died or just a souvenier. The woman reveals that if you look into the eyes, you can see a cross. It's the cross of Golgotha, for the location of Christ's crucification. She says it's a charm from Ikitsuki Island, where the underground Christians inhabited. Fuu asks if she knows about the Sunflower Samurai. Yuri wonders if she means Kasumi Seizou-san. Fuu jumps at the name, but her assailants return. Fuu draws her tanto and yells, "I know kenpo." The persuers walk up to Fuu and knock her out. Jin and Mugen return and are immediately told to search for Yuri. They wander aimlessly around the countryside, until they find a village. The village is being guarded and they say that no such woman or men have come this way. They are told to go get some sleep, and they leave. Jin ponders about the suspiciousness of the village, when noises from outside wake Fuu. She peers outside to see the villagers traveling at night. She follows them to a cave. Jin is made aware of her disappearance. Inside the cave, a large crowd of people are gathering around European Christian emblems. Xavier speaks to the people, and says that believing in God is not enough to get into Heaven. Heaven has become crowded and now guns can be a passport to Heaven. No one should question his belief. However, Fuu is spotted amongst the crowd. Searching for Fuu, Jin has stumbled upon a gun transaction taking place. The Christian guards are selling weapons at dicount prices than the European ships sell. The underground Christians are laboring to forge steel into the rifles. Yuri demands to know why Xavier is misleading the followers. He responds with "money." He reveals that currupting the underground Christians is the perfect scam, because of their persecution. With his wealth, he has purchased many valueable items that he keeps as collectibles. The money is also to buy Yuri's affection. Xavier tells Yuri that she will marry him or end up like her father. Violence will follow if money will not persuay her. She gets slapped, but does not turn her cheek. However, she is thrown in a cell with Fuu. Fuu has written a message and gives it to Momo-san to pass along. Yuri asks why Fuu came. She says to find more about the Sunflower Samurai. Yuri says that Ikitsuki Island was a refuge for Christians. People lost their homes and went underground. Seizou was one of them, but Yuri never saw him after that, which was years ago. Back at the shack, Momo-san awakes a sleeping Mugen. Jin arrives in time to stop Mugen from killing Momo and he reads the message. They leave to find the men operating the Christian road block. With a little persuasion, the men lead Mugen and Jin back to the cave. Yuri explains that her father was killed by Xavier. He was a gunsmith who found out he was making deals with the feudal lord. Yuri believes that this too may be her fate. Xavier has set up the wedding. Yuri must confess her love to Xavier before God. Fuu pleads for her not to. Xavier yells that a demon possesses her, and she must be killed. Yuri comes to her senses and screams that she'd rather die than marry him. Before Xavier can shoot them, Mugen and Jin arrive. They enlighten the people to the corruptness behind Xavier's gun crusade. As Mugen is being shot at he leaps on the large cross, Xavier fires and hits the statue. It comes toppling down to shake up Xavier. His phony nose and facial hair come off to reveal that he is Japanese. Yuri reveals the false Xavier's scam to make money. He pleads his case that they believed him before, and he is still their saviour. He says he will repent and must be forgiven. Yuri fires a shot at him, but spares his life. However, Xavier disrespects her forgiveness and picks up his shoulder cannon. He waves it the crowd and accuses their folly of relying on Christ. He'll kill them all. He turns it back to Yuri and presses the trigger... ...nothing happens. He inspects the cannon and it explodes in his hands. Could this be divine intervention? The trio are back outside and departing. Yuri asks if Fuu is heading to Ikitsuki Island. She prays that Fuu finds the Sunflower Samurai with a safe journey. Almost backed in, Jin and Mugen question who this Sunflower Samurai is. She reveals that the man is her father! Mugen and Jin gasp. She starts again and they head off.
The normal cutscenes where the commercials would go show a stain glass image of Japanese art. Yuri's lack to turn the other cheek could display her mental toughness to stand against Xavier at the time. Kasumi Seizou is some how connected with the Christian faith in Japan on Ikitsuki Island. Mugen is prepared to strike Xavier, but Jin puts up his hand. Mugen follows Jin's lead and waits. |
