Synopsis: The episode opens with a ship set sail on the ocean. A pirate ship emerges and drives into the hull of the ship. The pirates murder and pillage the ship. Then, they send it to Davey Jones' locker. Mugen, Jin, and Fuu are taking a shortcut through the jungle. Mugen yells to Fuu that they are getting closer to the ocean, because he can smell it. Fuu runs ahead and views the vast ocean. As Jin an Mugen climb down the rock sides. Mugen spots a long lost friend on the beach, Kohza. She recognizes Mugen and runs up to greet him. She is suprised to see him alive? and she begins to cry. Just then, Jin and Mugen eye a fishing net being thrown at them. Fuu gets tangled, while Jin and Mugen evade it. The pirates come out of hiding. Kohza pleads to the pirates to stop, but they tell her, "the bait," to stay out of the way. The pirate leader, Mukuro, halts the fighting and pointing his gun at them. He walks directly towards Mugen with the gun to his head. Mugen raises his sword to Mukuro's throat. He tells Mugen that he thought the next place he'd see him would be in Hell. They lower their weapons. Mukuro says that they attacked looking for some skilled men to help them with a heist. Mugen refuses the offer, saying that he doesn't team up with anyone. He is only traveling with Jin and Fuu to protect them til Nagasaki. Mukuro laughs at the fact that Mugen is aiding Jin and Fuu. He obviously has a past that speaks otherwise. Mugen sheaths his sword and walks away. Fuu, Kohza, and Jin follow. Kohza explains to Fuu that Mukuro is her brother. They were all together on an island called Ryukyu, were criminals were exiled. They were all born and raised there. Fuu tells Kohza about the trip to Nagasaki, and Kohza says that the easiest way would be to cross by a boat. Mugen gets up to look for a vessel. Kohza is amazed to see that Fuu and Jin know very little about Mugen. Fuu recognizes that Mugen and Mukuro are on bad terms. Kohza says that her brother should die, but she cant make it on her own. Fuu and Jin find a plundered village. As Mugen is eyeing some row boats. Mukuro asks Mugen if he has forgotten everything... Mugen is standing on a cliff to be executed by some officers. He says that he doesn't care if he goes to Hell. He lives by his own strength and doesn't want the officers to kill him. He says he'll get there on his own. Mukuro and Kohza watch in hiding as Mugen jumps off the cliff. Mugen and Mukuro are now about to play chicken off the cliff. Mukuro says he wants Mugen's help if he wins. They both get to the edge and leap off. Mugen grabs hold of the edge of the cliff, but he pears down and Mukuro is clinging on even farther. Mukuro says they are cursed, but he has won. Jin and Fuu have found a place to stay. Jin says that Mukuro's men killed the women and children of the village. The young men were made to fight each other and now join him. Mugen shows up and says that he will help Mukuro on his heist. Jin tells Mugen to do as he wants. Mugen says he's not taking orders and leaves. He shows up at Mukuro's hideout. He says that when this is over, he never wants to see Mukuro's face, again. The heist is the pillage of a shogunate ship. The ship carries 60,000 ryou from Osaka to Edo. The ship will be anchored and resting. Mukuro says that he knows this because he has an ally aboard the ship. Mukuro will sneak on with the gun powder and start a fire. As this goes on, Mugen will ram the shogunate ship and steal the money. Darkness and rain will be their cover. That night Mugen is laying on the beach. Kohza joins him and speaks of their past. She asks him if he remembers what they talked about on the night of the beach. She wonders what they would be like, had they not been born on Ryukyu. She asks Mugen if he is happy, but he doesn't respond. She says that she wants to run away with him, but he casts her off and leaves. It starts to rain. As Kohza watches Mukuro board the ship with the gun powder, she remembers what he said to her. He tells her about the heist and says that he will kill them all, including Mugen. She decides to run and tell Jin and Fuu. The heist goes off as planned, but Mugen never sees the fire. He decides to ram the shogunate boat anyways. As he does, he sees the shogunate men waiting for them. A double cross! Mukuro's spy tells the shogunate men to attack the pirates. After the shogunate men leave the ship, Mukuro emerges. He throws the barrel of gun powder onto the pirate ship with many explosives. He and his spy cast off, leaving Mugen stranded on the pirate ship. Fuu, Jin, and Kohza arrive at the peir as the pirate ship explodes.
Mukuro holds his gun at a right angle, like he's ready to bust some caps in someones' asses. When Mukuro and Mugen play chicken, Mugen never explains what he wants if he wins, but it was probably to never see Mukuro's face again. Mugen tells Fuu and Jin that he changed his mind to help Mukuro, but he really lost a bet. As Jin and Fuu are waiting for Mugen to pull the heist. Jin sharpens his sword and Fuu is playing with Momo-san. |
