Synopsis:
This episode is told from the perspective of "Yamane the Ogre." He has been a guard of the Hakone Checkpoint for 30 years and is about to retire. No one has snuck through the checkpoint, but he remembers the day when all were free to pass. . .

Mugen, Jin, and Fuu are outside discussing passports and how to pass the checkpoint. None of them has a passport. Mugen suggests killing them, but Hakone is one of the toughest checkpoints. Fortunately, good luck shines upon them and a passing man jus' so happens to have passports to sell!

However, the passports are fake, and they are immediately arrested.

At the time Yamane was a novice official. He remembers the glare of Mugen's stray dog eyes. Kinumasa was the top official. He was corrupt, and due to his family ties, he was untouchable.

Criminals who are caught at the checkpoint have their background checked. Those with a bounty are sent to the offending area. The latter, who are clear, are crucified.

In this circumstance, a crucified man must be sent to where the offense occured. However, he was killed at the checkpoint. Kinumasa decides to make it look like the mountain tengu killed the man. Mugen is appointed to deliver the head. If he is not back by sunset, Fuu and Jin will be executed. After some stretching, Mugen takes off. Kinumasa sends Yamane to follow him.

Knowing that he is being tailed, Mugen hides and surprises his follower. However, it's just a jogging man. Mugen takes off, again, and is followed by the tengu. He leads them on a wild goose chase and eventually gets lost, himself.

Mugen falls down a hole and gets caught.

The tengu are actually military priests, the "souhei," who were believed to have disappeared. Back at their camp, the leader speaks of stray and tame dogs. The stray dogs live freely unrestricted with insecurity, while the tame dogs live as slaves to the restrictions of society. They plan on taking back the society with the aid of their "crop."

Mugen insults the tengu saying that they band together because they cant fight alone. As punishment, he will be executed the next day.

Yamane decides to free Mugen, but is caught in the process. Tied with Mugen, Yamane explains that the "souhei" were armed Buddhist monks who stood up for the people. But no one wants this because life is peaceful.

Yamane has a useful talent of dislocating his arms and is able to free himself. He borrows Mugen's shoe and starts a fire. The guard rushes in and Yamane cracks him on the head to escape.

The fire spreads to the "souhei's" crop of cannibus. Mugen and Yamane plow through the fields and thwart the "souhei." The leader says his revolution is ruined as all the crop burns.

Jin and Fuu are about to be executed. In the distance, Fuu sees a faint image, but it's just the jogging man. =[ As they are put on the cross, an eerie purple smoke rolls in. The group is consumed by the cloud of smoke, and they begin laughing uncontrollably and forget their worries.

That night everyone was allowed to pass the checkpoint and everyone was treated as equal. The revolution lasted one day as people danced and everything became an illusion.

The next morning Fuu and Jin pass the checkpoint. Fuu is very upset that Mugen abandoned them, and then they find him dancing with the "souhei."

Notes:
Not sure why this was called beatbox bandits. It might have been more appropriate for the last episode.

Fuu is very upset with the idea of Mugen leaving them, while Jin remains a calm.
