Synopsis:
Jin, Mugen, and Fuu are again in a gambling parlor. Jin and Mugen testeach others nerves as they discuss the outcome. They bicker back and forth and Mugen says he will make Jin cry "Uncle."Jin says who would cry "Uncle," or willingly give up. In a split second, Momo-san pushes forward a card, and they win! Jin questions if he saw the animal, but denies it.

With their recent earnings, they go and buy some food. As Fuu is remembering what it's like to be full, a stranger bumps into her and runs off. They are given their food, and Fuu learns that she was just pick-pocketed. Mugen and Jin chase after the perp. When each finds the wrong man, Jin excuses himself, while Mugen threatens the first group he sees, and the perp gets away.

Again, the perp finds another gang and pockets what an Aniki is holding onto. However, this group gets a good look at him. They lose him and the Aniki gets very worried about what he lost.

Mugen and Jin think they have found the perp's home and rush in. No one is home, except for a woman who says she has no son. She is very sick and asks them to leave. Jin apologizes and leaves. Jin and Mugen advise Fuu to stay at the house as they look around some more.

The perp, Shinsuke, has stolen a large cash of opium from the Aniki. In a dark alley, he talks with a buyer to take it off of his hands.

Fuu is walking to a hut. The sun is setting and bears down on the house. She enters the home to find a covered body. On the body is a half sheathed tonto. She pulls back the cloth from the person's face and . . .

Fuu wakes up still outside the house. Shinsuke comes home and he speaks with his mother. He says that he has found a good job, and will soon be able to buy some better medicine for her. She's aware of her son getting into trouble, but goes back to sleep. Fuu watches from outside.

She meets up with Mugen and Jin, and lies that the perp returned. They find an old shack and spend the night.

Fuu returns the next day and pears inside. Shinsuke's mother catches her outside and asks if Fuu is his girlfriend. She invites Fuu inside to eat and believes Fuu is his girlfriend. She says Shinsuke has no father and she is ill. She is concerned for her son's recent activities.

Shinsuke goes to the doctor and says the he can not do more for his mother with the money that he brings. The doctor cares little for his mother and more about business.

Back in the alley, Aniki and his gang find the buyer and questions him. They set his hair on fire to make him talk.

Fuu recognizes Shinsuke in the street and confronts him about the pickpocketing. However, the Aniki finds Shinsuke as well. The gang hold them at knife point, but they manage to escape. The cops show up and surround Shinsuke, so he holds Fuu hostage and backs into a hut.

He has no intent to harm Fuu, but has to get away because he is holding onto the opium. Fuu tends to Shinsuke's wound as he contemplates his hopelessness. Fuu tells him that she met his mother and knows why he has been pickpocketing. Shinsuke tells Fuu not to talk like she understands what he is going through, but she does. Fuu explains she has no mother, and her father is gone. Shinsuke explains that no one would ever hire him and they never had money.

Outside, the cops say they will charge in the hut at sundown. Jin and Mugen listen closeby, while Aniki and his gang sneak in and confront Shinsuke.

Mugen shakes off the cops and barges in. He bum-rushes Shinsuke and greets the Aniki. As Mugen fights off the gang. Shinsuke flings the opium in the air and makes an exit. He thanks Fuu for her words and exits.

Shinsuke escapes on the house tops, while Fuu chases behind. Shinsuke gets backed into alley and cornered by the cops. He pulls his knife and the cops kill him.

Fuu returns to Shinsuke's home, where is mother is concerned. His mother asks if he is coming back, but she already knows the answer.

Notes:
Mugen and Jin still do not know about Momo-san.

Though, the covered woman's face is never shown or fully explained, it can be assumed through the context that Fuu is coming home to find that her mother has passed away.

Shinsuke tells Fuu not to talk like she understands what he is going through, but she does. Because, she has no mother, and her father is gone.

Fuu always disobeyed her mother and used to be in trouble. She never got to ask or say the things that she wanted to.

This episode is very similar to Waltz for Venus of Cowboy Bebop, where a brother begins a life of crime to cure his blind sister.
