Synopsis:
This episode is told from the perspective of Sakami Manzou, an undercover detective. A brief introduction here, in 1888, an artist was amused by the Ukiyoe he saw in Paris. He moved to Arles in search of the heart of Japan. He sought other artists, but only found one, Gauguin. The man was Vincent van Gogh (or so the story goes.)

In this town young women have been disappearing, Manzou has been assigned to investigate.

Back to the story, Fuu is trying to talk the ferryman to reduce the price for a ride. The group is flat broke and stays in town. At a tea shop, one of the men offers to pay for Fuu's meal. She orders. As Jin and Mugen leave, they tell the owner to put the tab on Fuu's friend. She tells them to make some money for the ferry and they apathetically go off.

The man makes a frame with his hands and holds it up to Fuu. The man introduces himself as Hishikawa Moronobum, an artist.

All the women who disappeared where models for Ukiyoe.

Mugen confronts some lackies looking at Ukiyoe. They confront Mugen, but he winds up walking away with all of their money. He then spends it on more squid.

Hishikawa takes Fuu back to his studio and shows her his work. Of all the pictures, Fuu appreciates one with sunflowers the most. Hishikawa says that people dont appreciate art and he wants to go overseas oneday. He offers Fuu money to pose for him. She hesitantly accepts.

At the dock, Jin meets a gold teethed man playing shougi. The man tells him that bribes are made to have European ships dock outside of Nagasaki. The man asks him to play for a gamble. Jin's service for a bag of gold. Jin accepts.

The lackies head back to their boss, a middle aged women of much impatients. She tosses him money and tells him not to get robbed again.

Lolligagging on a bridge, Mugen finsihes the squid and remembers the ferry fee. Luckily, he meets his favorite lacky, again and chases him through the streets.

Fuu is posing for the artist. Unhappy with his work, he tries to make Fuu more comfortable. He gains her trust and she unclothes for him to sketch.

Jin and the man are still playing into the night. Jin mention that he learned shougi at his dojo. Planning ahead and anticipating the opponents moves is a skill. He mentions that he never beat his master at shougi, but doesn't comment on beating him with a sword. Accidentally, the old man knocks over the board spilling the pieces. One by one Jin places them back on to the board. The old man catches one piece that Jin "misplaced," and the game goes on.

Hishikawa finishes his sketch of Fuu and the lackies enter the room. He admits that this is the part of his job that he isn't proud of it. The lackies take Fuu away and place her in a barrel to be sold. Momo-san attempts to free itself, but fails.

Hishikawa is hastily on the move, but is stopped by his boss, the middle aged woman. In exchange for helping him with his art, he is her boy-toy. But, he runs off. He returns to the docks to set Fuu free and he explains his predicament. However, he is followed by his boss and her lackies.

Mugen, again, searches for Fuu at the artists house and questions him. He says she will be sold unless someone saves her. He explains that his Ukiyoe are used to catalog the women being sold through the docks to Europe. They arrive at the docks and find no one, but the detective.

Mugen rushes to the bridge just in time to meet his pals drifting down the stream. He chases them back to the Ukiyoe shop. Just then, the detective confronts the woman and says that with his evidence they can finally arrest the culpret...and turns his attention to the shougi man.

At that second, Jin beats him at shougi, and the man peacefully gets taken away. But before he goes, he tosses Jin the gold he promised.

Afterwards, they stand on the bridge and reflect. Mugen tosses Fuu some porn. On a boat below, Hishikawa is taking a boat to Europe. He says that his feeling for Fuu were true, and he'll return when his art is recognized. She angrily tosses the porn down at him, but appreciated that he had sketched her with big bosoms.

Hishikawa was returned to the country, but his Ukiyoe found it's way to Van Gogh. It was his pictures that were said to inspire Van Gogh to continue painting sunflowers.

Notes:
Fuu orders 20 sticks of squid at the restaruant.

The lackies have a modern portrayal with mohawks and chain necklaces.

Manzou stakes out the artists parlor as Fuu undresses and carries out a "questionable" activity with his jitte swords. He also punches a hole in the wall and gets a peek.

Jin learned to play shougi at his dojo. He never beat his master at shougi, but doesn't comment on beating him with a sword

While waiting for Hishikawa, Mugen reads a naughty magazine.

At the end, Fuu reflects on Hishikawa's painting and appreciates that she had big bosoms in the picture.
